Artis is one of the leading suppliers of innovative Drinkware, Barware, Tableware and Cutlery to the foodservice industry, with over 70 years of experience.
Our company origins date back to 1945, founded by John Artis Snr., with John Artis Jr. taking over leadership in the 1970s and becoming the long-serving Managing Director of John Artis Limited. Under his management, we became one of the UK’s best-known tabletop and barware distributors supplying restaurants, hotels, pubs and contract caterers. John and the team travelled extensively throughout these years sourcing the finest brands and products from around the globe to be sold exclusively in the UK hospitality market. These internationally recognised brands continue to form a cornerstone of the Artis portfolio today, including Luigi Bormioli, Libbey, Royal Leerdam, WNK and Tramontina.
In 2014, John Artis formed an exciting new partnership with BHS Tabletop AG, based in Selb, Bavaria and one of the largest professional porcelain tableware manufacturers in the world. The synergy between the two companies is considerable, the same high-quality standards and marketing expertise are shared. This acquisition has expanded Artis’ access to premium European brands such as Bauscher and Schönwald, strengthening and broadening the portfolio while allowing us to retain our UK distribution focus.
Speaking about this event at the time John Artis commented: “We are thrilled to welcome BHS tabletop AG as equity partners. Our objective, as always, is to provide a range of products and a level of service and continuity to the Hospitality and Foodservice sectors in the UK and Ireland that is second to none. This exciting move will help us achieve that and more. From a personal perspective, I wanted to pass the company, which is my life’s work, into strong and capable hands. John Artis retired from the Managing Director role in 2017, after 55 very successful years in the hospitality industry.
